'The Hills' to End; Last Season Will Address Heidi's Surgery

The Hills will officially be over later this year.

The MTV reality hit's sixth season -- debuting April 27 -- will be its last, UsMagazine.com has confirmed. Prior to this announcement, a show insider said in the new issue Us Weekly that the majority of the cast "want[ed] off" the series, whose ratings plummeted 30 percent last year.

"I think we've told the story of struggle and of finding yourself in L.A.," creator Adam DiVello told Entertainment Weekly on Thursday of the show, which catapulted the careers of Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge and others.

"A lot of these kids have found themselves and have certainly embarked on different careers and different paths," DiVello added. Indeed: former star Conrad left the show two seasons ago and is now a bestselling novelist and designer.

Heidi Montag recently recorded a pop album Supernatural and her first feature film, Just Go With it (with Jennifer Aniston). A Spencer Pratt source recently shot down rumors that he was quitting the show to fight cyber crime. (An insider confirmed to UsMagazine.com that he "flipped out" on a producer and MTV asked him to take a six-episode leave and anger mangement classes.)

DiVello says that season 6 will deal with Montag's shocking transformation via plastic surgery. "Our cameras are there that minute the mother opens the door and sees her daughter for the first time."

The final twelve episodes will also focus on Heidi and Spencer's marriage, Patridge's new boyfriend Ryan Cabrera, and Kristin Cavallari's rumored drug abuse.

MTV cancels The Hills

The Hills are alive with the.. wait no, they’re dead. That’s right folks, The Hills has finally been canceled. A Conrad-less Hills is just a pile of dirt as far as MTV and myself are concerned. Don’t worry about Speidi, Spencer is off to protect us from cyber crime. How I’m going to find out which douchey bars to avoid now I have no idea.

This is an obvious decision on the part of MTV because this show had become unwatchable in an “I actually can’t watch that show” way and not an “Oh that show is lame but I totally watch every episode” way. What will the cast do now to stay in the limelight? Audrina just ran the marathon but for some reason we can’t know what her time was, Spencer is doing that thing I mentioned above, I think Heidi passed away last season and was replaced by a real doll, Lo is.. I’m not sure where she is, Culver City I think and Kristen was starting to make a name for herself on TMZ before joining the cast of The Hills. Justin Bobby is probably pretty screwed unless Johnny Depp needs a stunt double that’s willing to walk the plank.

'Hills' Fans Want Lauren Conrad Back, Speidi Breakup In Final Season

While Kristin Cavallari and Lo Bosworth have weighed in on what they want to see happen in the final season of "The Hills," premiering April 27, it seems that fans have two very specific ideas for what they want to see in the final 12 episodes: Lauren Conrad needs to return, and Speidi need to break up.

"I'd like to see more drama between the castmembers and new locations," Shelby told MTV News, with her friend Julia adding, "I'd also like to see Heidi and Lauren. ... If they're friends anymore or if they, like, get into a big, huge catfight."

It seems that getting LC to return is pretty high on most "Hills" fans' wish lists. "I would like to see Lauren come back on the show," Ally said. "She's my favorite. She's so cute and pretty and sweet. That's pretty much all I would really, really want to happen." Olivia added: "I'd still like to know what she's up to."

And while a lot of fans want LC back, other fans want Speidi to go their separate ways. "Heidi and Spencer [should] break up," Holly and her pal Charity agreed. "I don't really like it. She can do better." Meredith explained why she'd like to see the show's most infamous pair call it quits: "I think Heidi and Spencer should break up because he's a jerk."

"I think she can do a lot better," Erin added. "I think he's making her do a lot of bad things."

Chantelle had the perfect way to make all the fans happy: "Lauren needs to come back and maybe have a little affair with Spencer," she proposed.
